1. Background
The most policies and investments on the next generation lighting industry are being made in Europe and North America. In particular, U.S. DOE (Department of Energy) is trying to open the next generation lighting industry market with various policies, and as part of that, it created a unique system of contest, ‘L-Prize (Bright Tomorrow Lighting Prizes).’ L-Prize is not mandatory such as legislation or certification, or it does not end at the research stage such as research project, but it is the system that gives large prizes and many industrial advantages to the companies that win L-Prize and companies can participate voluntarily. Consequently, it is more realistic system since implemented in mass production is a must.
