In 2011, Displaybank has planned 3 series of afternoon seminar that each series will focus on the most issued topic. On May 3, 2011, first of three afternoon seminar series will take place in San Jose.
Under the theme of "The Power of LEDs", Displaybank has invited industry leaders to speak at the event. LED has been one of key discussing topic in display sector and the growth of LED market corresponded to the growth of overall industry. Displaybank is actively involved in both market and technical research in LED field and would like to invite you to join us to hear what leaders have to say on the current market, its direction and many applications for LEDs.

Biography Kenneth (a.k.a. Sangheon) Koo is a Director of LCD Product Marketing for Samsung Electronics Co., overseeing whole category of LCD products and new panel requirements for IT, TV and commercial Displays. Kenneth is responsible for the adoption of new trends in LED backlight used in FPD TV and tablet displays, recently becoming mainstream applications. He has over 11 years of sales and marketing experience in the LCD marketplace. Kenneth has a MS degree in Mechanical Engineering as well as an MBA.

Overview: The growth of LED TVs, notebooks and recently added tablets gets closer into our real life with the performance and popularity of LEDs. Stylish trend in tablets and edge-LED LCD TVs including 3D features continue to address key characteristics; slim, lighter and green requirements. In addition, LED adoption by Samsung LCD lead the market needs for power savings with the quality of LED BLU as well as optical improvement in TFT LCD.

Biography Herb Schlegel is a Director of Product Marketing for Philips Lumileds, overseeing product requirements for the Illumination and Consumer Markets. Herb is responsible for the LEDs used in TV and monitor displays, general illumination applications, as well as colors and color mixing. He has over 17 years of sales and marketing experience in the semiconductor marketplace. Herb has a BS degree in Electrical Engineering as well as an MBA.

Overview: The growth of LEDs in general illumination depends on the advances of the performance of LEDs as well as significant reduction in cost. High performance LEDs continue to address these key areas by providing products that boost system efficiency as well as higher lumen per dollar output. In addition, high performance LEDs from Philips Lumileds are addressing the needs for quality of light in LED lighting by providing solutions for freedom from binning, better color accuracy and constant color over life.

Biography J. Norman Bardsley, PhD., is a consultant to industry, government and academia on flat panel displays and solid-state lighting, with special focus on organic and printed electronics. Norman received an M.A. in mathematics from Cambridge University and a Ph.D. in theoretical physics from the University of Manchester in England. He began his career as Professor of Physics at the University of Pittsburgh, leading a research group in atomic, molecular and plasma physics. Since then he has been Strategic Business Development Manager in the Information Technology Division at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL), Director of Roadmaps and Standards at the US Display Consortium (USDC) and Director of Display Technology for DisplaySearch. His current activities are centered upon diffuse lighting based on solid-state technology (OLEDs and embedded LEDs).
